NYWM: Day Nineteen

The creative non-fiction genre has been gaining popularity in Australia. Do you write in this style? This article from Allyson Latta has five tips on writing creative nonfiction well worth reading. Don’t know what creative nonfiction is? Lee Gutkind (described by Vanity Fair as ‘the Godfather behind creative nonfiction’), has a short and simple definition on his website. For examples of the genre you can read the Creative Nonficion Journal or listen to The Podcast of Creative Nonfiction. The South Australian Writers’ Centre are hosting a creative nonfiction masterclass with Lee Gutkind in August.

Are you a high school student in South Australia? Are you interested in writing fantasy? The South Australian Writers’ Centre are hosting a session for writers aged 12 and up with Ben Chandler on this very topic. Check their website for details on the August 9th session.

Another one for South Australian writers. The 2012 Salisbury Writers’ Festival Writing Competition is now open. There is a section for writers under 16, and for people over 17. Entries close July 13. More details here. If you happen to be a young writer who lives, studies or works in Salisbury there is also a specific writing competition for you. There are more details on the festival website.

Today the NYWM Travelling Story is in the Northern Territory. Our daily writer is Jacinta Nowland, 18, from Batchelor.
