NYWM: Day 2

two

Day two of National Young Writers’ Month. What does it have in store for you this year? A new goal, or a return to one that you couldn’t quite manage this year. This post is an oldie but a goodie, designed to help you ascertain what exactly your goal should be and how you can achieve it. A more general article on what makes a good goal is here, and well worth the read. Another excellent piece is this post on the NSW Writers’ Centre blog, where they discuss what comes after that magical first draft is completed.

Opportunities and Events

Want 30 days to write in Sri Lanka? Writers’ Victoria have opened applications to their fellowship with Templeberg Villa, which includes return economy airfares, accommodation, full board and a $1,000 allowance. Entries close June 14. Details here.

Did you know tomorrow the Voices on the Coast literary festival kicks off on the Sunshine Coast? A festival for under 18s, there are loads of activities to get involved in. Check out the full program on the website.

On June 8 at the SA Writers’ Centre you can attend a workshop on the practicalities of using social and online media as an author. Further details here.

In a few weeks the Noosa Long Weekend Festival kicks off, and there are some excellent literature events this year. Who wouldn’t want to spend from June 14 to June 23 kicking back in the sunshine talking about books and writing? Details on the website.

And here is a perfect quote for our traditional day of rest…

If you have other things in your life—family, friends, good productive day work—these can interact with your writing and the sum will be all the richer
– David Brin
