NYWM: Day 14

14

As of yesterday the unofficial Emerging Writer Bookclub started over at Gabe McGrath’s blog (day one is here)! Authors from this year’s edition will be on the blog over the next 36 days talking about their contribution and elaborating on why they wrote their piece. Should be loads of fun so make sure you check it out here. Bookclubs can be an excellent way to expand your reading horizons, and most people agree that the first step to becoming a good writer is being a good reader. This intern certainly found it to be one of the take-home lessons from her internship at The Bleacher Report.

Opportunities and Events

If you’re in the Perth area you might be interested in joining one of these bookclubs; there’s ones for literature, non-fiction, and sci-fi. You may also like to get along to larger forums, or watch them online (like you can with this one).

Also, don’t forget these competitions close soon: Churchill and District Short Story and Poetry competition, the Bruce Dawe poetry prize and these prizes through Wyndham City Libraries.

Today’s quote is on the value of reading.

The man who does not read books has no advantage over the man that cannot read them. – Mark Twain
