Description

Hum is bursting with brilliant writing and art from talented young people. Fiction in this issue pays a visit to the lone inhabitant of a crumbling seaside city in the (perhaps not-so-distant) future, accompanies the young daughter of a witch as she carries out her mother’s instructions for a destructive spell, and hangs out with an elderly woman who has just discovered the joy of podcasts. In nonfiction, we bounce around the page following thoughts on everything from what’s in a calorie to the elusive nature of time, learn the art of glassblowing, and delve into the changing cultural perceptions around the ‘gay walk’. Poetry examines family, food, love and identity, and comics ruminate on both silence and noise.

In this issue you’ll find oysters, lizards, eggs, Tyra Banks, a solar eclipse, Chekov and more!

Hum’s beautiful cover art is by Shae San Sim, and internal illustration is by Elmira Cheung.
