NYWM Writer profile: Raelke Grimmer

Raelke GrimmerName: Raelke Grimmer

Age: 22

State: SA

What is your NYWM goal?

To finish writing a creative non-fiction piece I am working on and to write two new short stories.

What kind of writing do you do?

I write for children and young adults, as well as short stories. I also write book reviews for Lip Magazine and for my blog, Little Swag of Books. Here is my picture book What in the World? and my YA sci-fi eSeries Sleepwalking. Three of my short stories are available for download at Alfie Dog Fiction.

What inspires or motivates you to write and reach your goals?

When I’m feeling lost creatively there is nothing which inspires me more than listening to a favourite song or reading a passage from a favourite book. I love songs with meaningful lyrics; lyrics which make me really think or really feel. Glen Hansard’s songs always inspire me to write. Markus Zusak’s The Book Thief and David Malouf’s books are always works I look to for encouragement and inspiration.

I’m motivated to write because there is nothing I want to be and nothing I want to do more than write.

What are you currently reading?

Burial Rites, by Hannah Kent, The Children’s Writer by Gary Crew and When Dogs Cry by Markus Zusak
