NYWM: Day 8

The first week of National Young Writer’s Month is almost complete, and we thought it might be a good idea to touch base with your NWYM writing goals. So sit back, relax, and let your brain do all the talking.

Here are some hints and tips to get you going on your reflective process, and some questions to think about:

What did you learn about your writing during the week? Think about the strengths and weaknesses, and what you need to improve.

Have you kept up to date with journal entries detailing the progress of your writing? If not, its still early days so now would be a good time to start!

As writers, we’ve found that the best way to improve ourselves is by letting friends and families read what we have written. Although it can be quite daunting, the feedback they provide may just be the right thing to keep you motivated. Bear in mind though that sometimes they might critique your work out of personal taste (ie: the romance plot is bad because they are not fans of romance novels). If that it is the case, explain to them to critique your prose not the plot of the story.

We would also like to know how your writing goals have been going, so if you have time fill out this poll, rating your progress from 1-5. (1=Have not done anything, 3=Starting to get there, 5=Consistent progress that I am happy with).

Opportunities and events

We’re always on the lookout for writers to be featured as part of NYWM. If you’re happy to answer a few questions about you and your writing, please fill out this form.

For all of you based in Northern Territory, check out this list of writers’ groups by NT Writers Centre.

Text and Image Magazine, which is based in Brisbane, are on the hunt for new writers to join their expanding team. The writing focuses on two categories: features and profiles. For more information, read the listing here.
