Announcing the 2023 Hachette Australia Prize for Young Writers
Express Media is thrilled to announce that we are partnering again this year with Hachette Australia to present the Hachette Australia Prize for Young Writers!
This developmental award – open to secondary school students aged 12-18 – recognises writing excellence in Fiction, Nonfiction, and Poetry categories. It aims to ignite a passion for creative writing in young Australians, offering resources to help them pursue writing and publishing opportunities beyond the classroom.
This year’s Ambassador to the prize, Pip Harry, will offer mentorship to shortlisted entrants, and says she’s excited to champion the work of young creatives.
“I’m so excited and honoured to be this year’s ambassador for the Hachette Australia Prize for Young Writers, administered by Express Media, Australia’s peak youth literary organisation. One of my favourite parts of being an author is encouraging young people to explore different styles of writing and find their unique voices on the page. I’m looking forward to discovering a new crop of emerging writers from the talented scribes that enter their work into this prize. Be brave – submit!”
The prize winner in each category will receive:
$500 courtesy of Hachette Australia
Publication of their work on the Express Media website
Their names and an acknowledgement printed in Voiceworks, Australia’s premier youth literary journal.
All fifteen shortlisted writers will:
Be invited to participate in a writing masterclass
