Buzzcuts

Since 1997, Buzzcuts has been an essential training ground for young writers, editors, and broadcasters. Through Buzzcuts, Express Media provides professional development and publication opportunities for young arts reviewers and cultural critics.

In order to develop the Buzzcuts framework and platform and support it with strategies to increase readership and reach, the board and staff of Express Media have decided not to deliver Buzzcuts in 2017.

We will instead join the broader conversation about the health of critical discourse in Australia and will work towards supporting the development of career pathways for our young writers that extend beyond the experience and professional development available through our programs.

We would like to relaunch  stronger Buzzcuts program in the future and aim for it to be acknowledged as both a respected publication contributing to arts criticism and an essential development opportunity for young cultural critics.

As we work on reshaping Buzzcuts and reflect on its role and value within our arts and cultural landscape, we invite contributions and input from our partner organisations, professional arts reviewers and cultural critics, past program participants, young writers and the broader community.
