Private: NEWS Student Editor Conference
NEWS 2012
NEWS stands for the National Editors Workshop and Skill-Share Conference, and it brings together new student newspaper editors from all over the country to participate in two days of panels, workshops and discussions about everything it takes to put a newspaper together.
Each February, Express Media, with the generous support of the Copyright Agency Limited breaks them in. It’s like frat boy initiation for geeks.
The 2012 NEWS Conference will be held from 2-3 February at the Wheeler Centre for Books, Writing and Ideas, 176 Little Lonsdale Street Melbourne.
We are delighted to announce that the FREE keynote address this year will be delivered by Lindsay Tanner, former Australian member of the House of Representatives representing the Division of Melbourne, Vice-Chancellor’s Fellow at Victoria University and author of “Sideshow: Dumbing Down Democracy”.
Anyone is welcome to attend the keynote address on Thursday February 2 from 5.30pm at the Wheeler Centre, but please book here or go to http://www.trybooking.com/Booking/BookingEventSummary.aspx?eid=19191&embed=19191 to secure your place.
If you’re about to start your tenure as a student newspaper editor, please contact Project Coordinator Vicky Smith for further details. A full conference program will be provided soon.
“Given the dwindling financial status of many student newspapers, NEWS offers a lifeline for new editors each year” – Emily Laidlaw, NEWS coordinator and participant, 2010.
